About The Event

As per the annual tradition of Maple Grove, join us for a self-guided walking tour through the history of this 151 year old cemetery with actors portraying historical figures. There will be performances by the renowned poet David Mills, drama students from The Kew Forest School, and Christopher Anton who will portray Melville Ellis. David Mills will be reading from his new book of poems, Unhired Hands, which is about slavery in Queens, where he writes about Millie Tunnell and Victoria Earle Matthews who are both interred in Maple Grove. David Mills will also share poems that are coming out in a forthcoming book about George Washington Johnson also at Maple Grove. Donations are appreciated, and visitors are encouraged to dress up in 1800s-1900s era clothing! Join us at the pedestrian entrance at Kew Gardens Road and Lefferts Blvd.

Free admission with RSVP, you're allowed to bring in upwards of 5…
