About The Event

A Trunk or Treat is a Halloween event that is often a community sponsored event. Sponsors for the 2019 Maple Grove Trunk or Treat are The Friends of Maple Grove, and various sponsors. Those who volunteer to bring a decorated vehicle will gather and park their cars in a secured closed off area in Maple Grove. They will open their trunks, or the side of their vehicles, and set up. A folding chair or two works great as the vehicle should always be monitored. When we open for the general public, they will pass out candy from their trunks and have people view their artistic efforts. THE MAIN GOAL OF THIS EVENT IS TO PROVIDE A SAFE FAMILY FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT FOR TRICK OR TREATERS! ALSO A WAY TO COLLECT FOOD FOR THE NEEDY.

LOCATION  MAPLE GROVE CEMETERY – The event will take place in the Victorian Monumental Park Section of the cemetery.  All participants should use the Lefferts Blvd. and Kew Gardens Road Entrance. NOTE: Monumental Park will be closed to all vehicular traffic when the families enter for Trunk or Treat 2 to 4:30 PM. The vehicles will line up along the main road inside Monumental Park a fair distance apart so that the treat or treaters can travel from one trunk to the next.

SCHEDULE SATURDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2019 • Vehicle SET-UP 1:00 to 2:00 PM  • Trunk Judging 4:00 to 5:00 PM • Trunk or Treat 2:00 to 5:00 PM

We will begin to shut things down at 4:45pm.  Please wait, so vehicles can leave in an orderly fashion with one vehicle following another.

DECORATIONS When it comes to decorating your vehicle there are the obvious choices, decorating for a Halloween theme, pumpkins, spider webbing, spiders, brooms, bats, cauldrons, etc... NOTE: So many of our trick or treaters will be preschoolers and toddlers so it is best to leave out the really scary items, like blood and gore. Keep decorations to a minimum on the scary meter! No blood or guts, violent images that would cause kids to have bad dreams. This event is for families and we want the kids, no matter how young, to have a great time. Remember it is a FAMILY FRIENDLY EVENT!  Be creative with your ideas. Please check out

the sample pictures provided below. The best-decorated trunk will win a cash prize so decorate to win! The Friends of Maple Grove will donate a $100 cash prize.

CANDY We have hundreds of children coming so you will need LOTS of CANDY. Bring only candy of the WRAPPED variety. We ask that YOU hand out the candy in small portions so that it will last longer.

FOOD DRIVE The event is free but is also a community Food Drive to help the feed the hungry. There will be a table set up at the Lefferts Blvd. and Kew Gardens Road Entrance to accept canned food donations from the general public which will be given to a local Food Pantry.
