The Civil War Living Historians Presentation

Updated: Oct 13, 2020

Friends of Maple Grove hosted the Civil War living historians presentation, on Sunday, June 8, 2014.

The Friends of Maple Grove wants to thank all those who came to the special Civil War Living Historian Event at Maple Grove on June 8.

These historians were beyond overwhelming. The crowds were huge and never let up until the very end of the day. It was a wonderful and reverent way to honor the many Civil War Veterans who are buried at Maple Grove including two Congressional Medal of Honor recipients: George Corliss and Edward Wright.

The group had set up a 1861 Union Army Camp on the grassy grove next to the 1880 Victorian Administration Building. There were small texts and display of artifacts from the Civil War period. The soldiers wore Union uniforms made exactly to original specifications. They were made of wool!

The mission of these Civil War Living Historians is to educate the public about the Civil War and they certainly accomplished that during the event. There were many children in the crowds who came and I was told they asked many good questions.

The event lasted from 11 AM to 4 PM and the weather was wonderful!

Thank you!

Carl Ballenas President of the Friends of Maple Grove
