Spanish American War Encampment

Annual military reenactment inside the gate at Lefferts Blvd. & Kew Gardens Rd. This year we had living historians from the Spanish American War period, including President Teddy Roosevelt and a special exhibit of equipment and uniforms provided by our Friends of Maple Grove Senior Vice President Helen Day’s, 16 year-old nephew, Sean Miller who had an extraordinary display. The event ran from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM. It was an amazing event, and the reenactment group told me that they had a huge event the day before, but they had more visitors at the Maple Grove site. There was a steady flow of people all day. They brought two horses and had a wonderful display. The day went quickly and near the end we had a group of soldiers march in formation to the grave of a Spanish American War soldier to offer a salute and play Taps.
